studio

I spent most of January and some of February picking away at building my new studio. This also meant getting rid of the old family room and building a new den upstairs. I also needed to build a lot of storage shelving a) for paintings and b) for general storage since the house doesn't have much storage space.

I wanted a neutral color for the studio walls, so I chose a light, cool grey--Benjamin Moore #2140, "Moonshine". I also wanted to be able to paint at night, so I installed 5000ƒK "daylight", ceiling mounted fluorescent fixtures. I still have lots of junk to get rid of, but at least I have a good place to work now and I am grateful for that. Eventually, I want to get a studio easel, but my Jullian does fine in the meantime.

These pictures and the floor plan will give you a good idea of how I am getting my studio set up. I've really enjoyed building this space and I am very happy to share it with you. Sorry the pics aren't better, but it was too bright with the lights on and too dark with them off.

West end wall with 8'-0" long, floor to ceiling bookshelves.

East end wall with shelving for canvases, frames, etc. Also, a bed for Duffy.

This is how I expect it will end up but I can't bring in the drawing board until I get the couch out. No room!
